Configure BIMI
Publish BIMI records and validate logo/certificate requirements.
Objective
Implement brand indicators
Prepare BIMI and related brand mark requirements.
Starting state
DMARC is enforced (or ready); brand wants logos in supporting inboxes
Prerequisites
- DMARC at enforcement suitable for BIMI
- SVG Tiny PS logo asset
- VMC/CMC path if required by targets
Estimated time
1–2 hours
Difficulty
intermediate
Required access
- DNS
- ESP or MTA admin
Inputs
- Domain
- BIMI SVG URL
- Optional certificate URL
Step-by-step instructions
- Confirm DMARC readinessVerify DMARC policy meets BIMI expectations for your target mailbox providers.
- Publish the logoHost a BIMI-compliant SVG and publish the BIMI TXT at default._bimi.
- Add certificate if requiredWhere providers require a verified mark certificate, publish the a= evidence URL.
- Validate displayCheck BIMI inspectors and spot-check supporting clients — absence of a logo is not always a DNS error.
Verification
- BIMI TXT resolves
- Logo URL returns the expected SVG
- Inspector reports no hard DNS errors
Common mistakes
- Publishing BIMI before DMARC enforcement
- Non-compliant SVG
- Pursue VMC now or publish BIMI without certificate where allowed?
- Is the SVG strictly Tiny PS compliant?
Rollback / recovery
- Remove or comment BIMI TXT; keep DMARC unchanged
Expected outcome
BIMI DNS is correctly published for participating providers without weakening DMARC.
